Earlier this month, the Ralbru Games crew packed our games, our dice, and a whole lot of excitement for Tabletop Scotland – one of the biggest and most welcoming conventions on the UK gaming calendar. It turned out to be an unforgettable weekend filled with new faces, old friends, and tables bursting with laughter, strategy, and stories.
The Journey North
The trip itself became part of the adventure. Between juggling suitcases stuffed with game prototypes and making sure no dice bags were left behind, there was plenty of pre-flight drama. Fortunately, the flights were smooth and gave us a rare chance to catch our breath. A couple of us used the time to brush up on rulebooks (because even designers sometimes need a refresher!), while others just enjoyed watching the excitement of fellow convention-goers heading in the same direction.
Landing in Scotland, we could already feel the buzz in the air. Even in the airport, you could overhear people talking about which games they were excited to try. By the time we reached the convention centre, we were ready to dive straight into the fun.
A Huge Thank You to Dice & Destiny
Before we even set foot on the convention floor, we knew we couldn’t have done this without the incredible support of our local shop, Dice and Destiny. They really went above and beyond to help us prepare—whether it was offering advice on what to pack, lending us space in their van to transport our games, or just being a sounding board while we worked through logistics. Having a friendly, knowledgeable local hub like theirs makes all the difference when you’re trying to take on a big event like this.
We want to give them an extra big shout-out here: community-focused shops like Dice and Destiny are the heart of the tabletop hobby, and their support made our Tabletop Scotland trip possible.
The Big Games We Brought Along
We didn’t travel light! Our stand was stacked with some of Ralbru’s biggest titles, and we were thrilled to see so many people sitting down to play.
– This one grabbed attention straight away thanks to its table presence. Bright components and bold mechanics meant crowds kept forming to watch, and before long we had waiting lists of people eager to jump in.
– The epic scale of this game made it one of the highlights of our weekend. Players left the table grinning, trading stories about daring moves, unexpected twists, and last-minute victories.
ButtChess became a surprise favourite for first-time players. Watching people discover it for the first time was a real treat, and it sparked some wonderful conversations about game design, themes, and strategy.
What stood out most was the mix of people who joined in. We had experienced gamers eager for a challenge, families looking for something fun to play together, and curious newcomers dipping their toes into the hobby. The variety of players made every session unique and memorable.
The Atmosphere at Tabletop Scotland
Tabletop Scotland itself was buzzing all weekend. The energy in the convention hall was infectious—rows upon rows of tables packed with gamers, stalls showcasing exciting indie titles, and the steady hum of dice rolling across tabletops.
One of the best parts was how welcoming the community was. Even if people had never heard of Ralbru Games before, they were quick to pull up a chair, ask questions, and dive straight into the action. That kind of openness is what makes tabletop gaming so special—it’s about sharing experiences, telling stories together, and making friends over a deck of cards or a pile of dice.
We also loved chatting to fellow creators and exhibitors. Seeing so much creativity in one space was inspiring, and it reminded us why conventions are so vital: they give everyone a chance to connect face-to-face and celebrate the joy of games.
Looking Back
By the end of the weekend, we were running low on energy but high on inspiration. Tabletop Scotland gave us exactly what we needed: feedback on our games, encouragement from players, and a chance to be part of something bigger than ourselves.
We came home with notebooks full of ideas, stories to tell, and a renewed drive to keep creating. And most importantly, we came home grateful—to Dice and Destiny for their support, to the organisers for such a brilliantly run convention, and to every single person who sat down and played with us.
Until Next Time
Tabletop Scotland 2025 will stick with us for a long time. We’re already talking about what games to bring next year and how we can make our booth even bigger and better.
Thank you to everyone who joined us at the table, cheered us on, or stopped by to say hello. We can’t wait to do it all again. Until then—keep rolling, keep playing, and we’ll see you across the table.
